Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

To preserve antique wood and delicate veneers, keep the item away from direct sunlight and sources of artificial heat to prevent drying and cracking. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasional application of traditional beeswax help maintain the natural moisture and sheen of the finish without chemical buildup.

Integrating a period piece into a contemporary scheme involves balancing its ornate historical details with minimalist surroundings or clean-lined modern seating to create a curated, eclectic contrast. Placing the table as a focal point in an open space allows the craftsmanship of the figured wood and carved elements to stand out.

Authentic pieces can be identified through construction details such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, subtle tool marks on secondary woods, and the presence of patination rather than uniform modern finishes. High-end pieces from this era frequently feature intricate hand-carving and book-matched veneer work.

Master craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, frequently employing highly figured veneers like burr walnut on table tops for decorative impact. Construction often involved traditional mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved solid wood supports, and turned stretchers for structural stability.

Victorian furniture encompasses designs produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, spanning from 1837 to 1901. It is characterised by a revival of historicism, incorporating eclectic influences from Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo styles, often executed with heavy ornamentation and dark, rich timbers.
