FAQs

The Louis XV style, prevalent during the 18th century and later revived in the 19th century, is characterised by asymmetrical curves, naturalistic motifs such as foliage and shells, and a departure from heavy symmetry.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised fine hardwoods such as mahogany, kingwood, and walnut, often accented with gilt-bronze or ormolu mounts and marquetry inlay.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, appropriate timber ageing, maker signatures or foundry stamps on bronze mounts, and construction methods consistent with 18th-century or 19th-century revival workshops.

Pairing historical items with clean architectural lines and minimalist decor creates a sophisticated contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the piece without overwhelming the space.

Maintain stable relative humidity, avoid direct sunlight to protect the wood finish, and clean surfaces periodically with a soft, dry cloth without applying harsh chemical polishes.
