Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A marquetry ladies work table is a refined occasional table originating in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, designed primarily for storing sewing accessories, letters, or small crafts. These tables feature decorative wood veneer patterns, known as marquetry, and were prominent features in formal drawing rooms.

These tables are crafted using dense hardwoods such as walnut, rosewood, or mahogany as the core frame. The decorative surface combines exotic veneers like satinwood, boxwood, and tulipwood, frequently trimmed with cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts, known as ormolu.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut timber veneers showing slight natural irregularities, hand-dovetailed drawer joinery, and patinated brass fittings. Additionally, look for signs of historical shrinkage in the timber framing underneath and original gilded metalwork on the feet or stretchers.

Position the table as an accent piece next to clean-lined contemporary sofas or within a hallway alcove to create contrast. Pair it with modern table lamps or understated ceramic accessories to highlight the detailed woodwork without overwhelming the space.

Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent veneer lifting or timber cracking. Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly, taking care not to let wax build up on the gilt-bronze mounts.
