FAQs

Staffordshire clock groups are decorative ceramic figures produced in the Staffordshire pottery district during the 19th century, typically featuring a faux clock face flanked by human or animal figures designed for display on a mantelpiece.

These figures were traditionally slip-cast or hand-moulded from earthenware, then hand-painted with underglaze colours and enamels before being fired in pottery kilns.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit characteristic crazing in the glaze, vent holes on the underside or back, hand-painted detailing with minor imperfections, and hollow flatback construction.

These decorative objects work well when placed on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side cabinet where their historical character adds texture and colour to contemporary spaces.

Keep ceramic pieces out of direct sunlight to prevent paint fading, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid using water or chemical cleaners on the fragile painted surfaces.
