Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Italian Renaissance Revival carving from the 19th century reinterpreted classical motifs from the 15th and 16th centuries, including cherubs, acanthus leaves, and mythical figures. Craftsmen produced decorative, sculptural pieces that reflected historical grandeur while fitting 19th-century interior proportions.

Limewood was favoured by carvers due to its fine, tight grain and soft texture, which allowed for intricate detail and expressive figurative shaping. Master carvers used specialised chisels and gouges before applying dark stains, wax finishes, or polishes to protect the timber.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display precise hand-tool marks inside intricate recesses, natural wear on handling points, and historical timber movement along glue joints. The finish often exhibits deep patination and age-related darkening within deeply undercut relief work.

A decorative wooden stand can serve as a plant pedestal, a focal display for ceramics, or an accent piece in an entry hall or living area. Positioning the piece against neutral backdrops allows its detailed carvings and rich wood tones to contrast effectively without overcrowding the space.

Dust the intricate carvings regularly using a soft, dry natural-bristle brush to prevent build-up in detailed areas. Periodically apply a high-grade microcrystalline or beeswax polish with a soft cloth to nourish the wood and maintain its protective finish.
