Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Chinese snuff bottle dates from the Qing Dynasty, specifically the late 19th or early 20th century. Fashioned from warm brown agate, the vessel takes the form of a carved creature with a detailed dragon motif and a cross-hatch pattern across its body. The piece has a polished finish showing natural dark inclusions and variegated shading within the stone. A matching turquoise cabochon stopper sits at the top, secured by a ribbed metal collar and surmounted by a tiny loop finial. The object measures 6.5 cm in height including the stopper. Positioned on a bookshelf, this decorative bottle brings intricate texture to a gentleman's library or study display. The compact scale allows for easy placement within a collection of small desk ornaments or cabinet curiosities. Handling requires care due to the delicate stone carving and the small metal fittings of the stopper assembly.

FAQs

Snuff bottles were manufactured during the Qing Dynasty to hold powdered tobacco, evolving into status symbols carved from precious minerals such as agate, jade, and chalcedony.

Craftsmen utilised natural agate, hollowing out the interior using specialised hand drills and intricately carving low-relief motifs that incorporated the stones natural inclusions.

Authentic Qing Dynasty agate bottles feature hollowed interiors displaying hand-tooling marks, natural mineral inclusions, soft wear around the foot rim, and period-appropriate stopper fittings.

These small decorative objects are best displayed on a mantelpiece, inside a glass cabinet, or alongside other Asian works of art on a sideboard.

Wipe the agate surface gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid chemical cleaners or ultrasonic baths, which can loosen stoppers and damage metal collars.
