Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1910s:
Radial veneer segments to the top: careful cabinet work from early twentieth-century workshops.
Hand-carved foliate details on the knees and feet: individual bench craftsmanship.
Mellow wax finish on the walnut: gentle surface wear from decades of light use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This walnut lamp and occasional table dates from 1910 and displays a French Revival style. The piece uses warm brown walnut and walnut veneer, finished with a quartered veneer top, a moulded rim, and carved scroll knees on cabriole legs ending in scroll feet. The surface shows a rich medium-brown timber colour with darker grain patterns meeting in the centre of the top. The round table measures 63.5 cm high, 51 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, providing a compact surface for everyday use. Position this occasional table at the end of a sofa in a living room, or use it as a bedside table or wine stand in a bedroom. The surface area supports a reading lamp, drinks, or decorative items, while the sturdy construction ensures it holds up to regular daily use in domestic spaces.

FAQs

A French Revival walnut occasional table typically features cabriole legs, ornate scroll carving, and decorative veneers such as burr walnut, popularised during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

These tables usually feature quartered or figured walnut veneers laid over a solid timber core, framed by hand-carved solid walnut aprons and cabriole legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved detail on the legs and apron, natural timber patination, minor shrinkage lines, and traditional joinery techniques underneath the top.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa, topped with a contemporary ceramic lamp or glass vase to create a contrast between traditional woodwork and modern accessories.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber, avoiding harsh direct sunlight or heat sources.
