Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Staffordshire portrait figures are lead-glazed earthenware ornaments produced in England during the 19th century, designed to depict prominent royal, historical, theatrical, or political personalities.

These figures were created using press-moulds with earthenware clay, fired, glazed, and then hand-painted using overglaze enamel colours. The flat or plain backs allowed them to sit flush against wall surfaces and fireplace mantels.

Authentic period figures typically display natural glaze crazing, small firing holes on the base or rear, hand-applied enamel decoration with subtle wear, and a lighter earthenware body compared to modern reproductions.

These ceramic items are traditionally arranged on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or console table top, where they add historical depth and texture when layered alongside modern glassware or artwork.

Dust gently with a clean, dry microfibre cloth or soft brush. Avoid submerging the piece in water or applying abrasive cleaning chemical products, which can damage overglaze enamels or enter glaze crazing.
