Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian mahogany serpentine side table brings timeless elegance to a narrow wall space, functioning as a practical writing desk, a hallway console, or a decorative display surface in a traditional living room. The piece is constructed from warm brown timber with a crossbanded top and delicate boxwood string inlay outlining the two drawers. Details visible on the structure include a distinctive serpentine front profile, moulded edges, and four square tapered legs that provide stable support. The drawers are fitted with cast brass swan-neck handles secured by backplates, showing the refined hardware of the period. Subtle variations in the wood grain highlight the rich finish and natural texture of the mahogany surfaces. Measuring 71 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, the table fits comfortably against compact interior walls without overwhelming the surrounding floor plan. The compact proportions allow it to sit underneath wall mirrors or alongside seating areas while offering enclosed storage space within the twin drawers. Daily use is straightforward thanks to the accessible drawer pulls and flat top surface suited for lamps, books, or decorative objects. Every element reflects traditional cabinet-making traditions from the late Georgian era, maintaining historical character while serving contemporary interior design needs.

FAQs

Originating in the 18th century, a Georgian serpentine side table features a distinctive wave-like, convex-concave front profile, constructed from mahogany with delicate inlay work and neoclassical proportions.

Primary timber for Georgian furniture was dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany, accented with boxwood or satinwood string inlay, oak secondary wood for drawer linings, and cast brass handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, oak or pine secondary woods, hand-sawn timber marks, and natural oxidisation on original brass hardware.

Position the table in a hallway or living space paired with contemporary artwork above, modern table lamps, or minimal ceramic vessels to create a balance between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep mahogany away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber movement, wipe dust with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply a thin layer of beeswax polish annually.
