Victorian tiles were typically manufactured using dust-pressed or plastic earthenware clay, which was then decorated via transfer printing, hand painting, or enamelling before receiving a protective lead or feldspathic glaze.

Authentic pieces usually feature distinct backmarks, raised maker marks, or mould numbers pressed into the reverse side of the clay body, accompanied by crisp transfer printing typical of late nineteenth-century British industrial ceramic production.
