This fine antique writing table has been professionally restored and dates to a period that spans the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (1890 - 1910). During this time, the fashion for furniture and interior décor that reflected the elegance and style of the late eighteenth century was at its peak. It is is now classified as Sheraton Revival. West Indian Satinwood was the timber most associated with the original Sheraton period (1790 - 1805). However, due to demand, natural stocks of this wood were decimated. A hundred years later, cabinet makers had to source alternatives, with the same deep lustrous light reflecting qualities. Species, such as Ceylon and East Indian Satinwood were used to mimic the original. This lovely writing table is partly constructed and decorated using these timbers.
