Antique Aesthetic Movement Double Sided Partners Desk

Description

A particularly attractive antique Aesthetic Movement partners desk, constructed as a fully double-sided desk with working drawers to one side and cupboard doors to the reverse. The desk combines warm golden timber with extensive contrasting ebonised detailing throughout. The rectangular top is inset with a deep red leather writing surface, finished with an ornate gilt tooled border and framed by contrasting black lines. A handsome and unusual desk, with the rich red leather, golden timber and ebonised decoration creating a particularly striking combination.

CONDITION REPORT:

Overall in lovely antique condition with wear commensurate with age and use. The red leather writing surface remains in good condition, retaining its gilt tooled border, with some light creasing and minor age-related wear.

There are scratches, knocks, scuffs and marks to the timber throughout, with more noticeable scratching and wear around the lower plinths and bases of the pedestals. Further minor knocks and wear are present to edges and mouldings, together with general variation in colour and patina. Drawers run well and the brass fittings present nicely. Despite the expected cosmetic wear, the desk remains a very handsome and impressive example.
