This mahogany circular extending dining table belongs to the Grand Regency period around 1900. The piece displays a dark brown polished finish, complemented by brass leaf hinges on the top and brass fittings on the feet. The round top incorporates four outer extension segments designed with radial extension leaves, supported by four vertical fluted legs featuring square tapered feet. This versatile furniture piece suits a formal dining room or a spacious central living space for daily family meals and entertaining guests. Measuring 76 cm high, 137 cm wide, and 137 cm deep, the table provides ample surface area for multiple settings. The traditional engineering allows the outer segments to unfold and expand the perimeter, creating an expansive circular dining surface from a compact footprint. The rich timber grain and classic architectural motifs demonstrate traditional cabinet-making standards of the era. The sturdy construction ensures lasting stability during everyday domestic use.

FAQs

A circular radial extending dining table uses perimeter leaves or expanding pie-shaped sections that increase the overall diameter, maintaining a round profile while accommodating extra seating.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods such as solid mahogany or walnut, complemented by brass leaf hinges, brass castors, and smooth iron or wooden extension mechanisms.

Look for hand-cut joinery underneath the tabletop, solid brass hardware with age-appropriate patination, natural wear along mechanical runners, and consistent grain matching across the extension leaves.

Pair dark mahogany tones with contemporary upholstered dining chairs, ground the arrangement with a neutral textured rug, and maintain simple tableware to highlight the wood grain.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Apply beeswax periodically along the grain, and clean spills immediately with a soft cloth.
