Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian furniture encompasses the styles produced during the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, spanning from 1714 to 1830. It is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and a transition from heavy walnut to rich mahogany as the primary timber.

Cabinet makers of the Georgian era predominantly utilised imported Cuban mahogany for its dense grain and deep colour, often complemented by solid oak or pine for secondary framing and drawer linings. Brass was universally used for cast hardware, escutcheons, and handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit period joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer boxes, hand-planed secondary woods, and natural patination developed over centuries of use. Fixtures and fittings should align with period-appropriate casting methods and wear patterns.

Pairing dark timber antiques with modern neutral walls and minimalist lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the rich grain of the wood. It can serve as a functional accent piece in hallways or living areas alongside contemporary art.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Regularly feed the surface with traditional beeswax and polish with a soft lint-free cloth, avoiding silicone-based commercial sprays.
