Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III lowboy is an 18th-century small table or low chest of drawers produced during the reign of King George III (17601820). Typically featuring three or more drawers, shaped aprons, and slender cabriole or tapered legs, these pieces served as dressing tables or side tables.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany. Drawer construction utilised hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck handles with solid backplates.

Authentic pieces feature irregular hand-sawn timber marks, natural shrinkage lines along the wood grain, hand-cut dovetail joints, and original brass fittings showing natural oxidisation. The underside and backboards typically show unfinished, rough-sawn secondary woods like oak or pine.

A lowboy serves effectively as an entryway console table, a compact home office writing desk, or a bedroom dressing table. Combining dark mahogany tones with modern lighting or contemporary artwork creates an engaging visual contrast in modern spaces.

Maintain the original finish by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement, cracking, and fading.
