Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table equipped with drawers, originating in the 18th century during the Georgian period in England and North America. Originally serving as dressing tables or side tables, they are characterised by straight or cabriole legs and brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century lowboys were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or oak, featuring pine or oak secondary drawer linings. Construction methods included hand-cut dovetail joints, cockbeaded drawer edges, and solid brass batwing or bail handles.

Authentic George III lowboys display hand-planed surfaces, irregular hand-cut dovetail joinery, and original cast brass furniture hardware. Wear around the foot bases, secondary timber oxidisation inside drawers, and age-related shrinkage splits are key indicators.

An antique lowboy functions effectively as an entryway console table, hallway accent piece, or bedroom dressing table. Pairing dark timber with contemporary artwork, minimalist lamps, or neutral stone ceramics creates visual balance between historic craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Preserve antique mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the timber grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme changes in relative humidity to prevent warping or cracking.
