Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table featuring drawers, supported by cabriole or turned legs, originating in 18th-century England and North America. Originally designed to serve as a dressing table or side table, it provided compact storage and a flat surface within Georgian living spaces.

18th-century English lowboys were constructed primarily from native hardwoods such as solid oak, walnut, or mahogany. Key construction details include hand-dovetailed drawer joinery, secondary oak or pine drawer linings, cast brass handles, and hand-carved legs.

Authentic period lowboys feature hand-cut, slightly irregular dovetail joints, saw marks on secondary timbers, and natural timber shrinkage across the top surface. The brass hardware should exhibit historical patination, and the underside should show hand-planed finishes rather than modern machine marks.

An antique oak lowboy functions as a hallway console table, a bedside table, or a dressing vanity in a bedroom layout. Combining the dark oak patination with modern artwork or contemporary lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic and modern design elements.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a beeswax polish once or twice a year. Position the table away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood movement, cracking, or shrinkage.
