Wine tables, also known as tripod tables or candle stands, emerged during the 18th century in Britain to serve beverages and hold lighting in reception rooms.

Authentic period examples are typically constructed from solid timber such as mahogany or oak, featuring turned central pillars and three-legged cabriole bases joined by traditional joinery.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, tool marks, patination, and the construction of the pivot or birdcage mechanism underneath the table top.

These compact pieces function effectively as functional accent furniture next to sofas, in tight corners, or as bedside surfaces to introduce historical character.

Maintenance requires avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity, applying quality beeswax periodically, and using coasters to protect the polished wood surface from moisture.
