Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An opera monocular is a compact optical instrument designed for theatre and opera attendees in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Unlike larger field binoculars, its single-barrel design allowed discreet, low-magnification viewing of stage performances within indoor venues.

Victorian optical instruments were primarily constructed with brass or metal alloy barrels, glass lenses, and protective coverings made from textured leather, vulcanite, or mother-of-pearl. Storage cases were commonly crafted from molded leather with velvet or silk lining.

Authentic period monoculars feature hand-fitted brass components, smooth sliding focus mechanisms, and natural glass elements. Stamped maker marks or country-of-origin engravings, such as German or French manufacturer stamps, are frequently found near the eyepiece or objective lens rim.

A vintage monocular serves as an intriguing accent piece when displayed on a desk, within a glass display cabinet, or atop a stack of antique leather-bound books. Pairing it with traditional brass instruments, maps, or framed botanical prints complements a classic study or library setting.

Lenses should be cleaned exclusively with dry optical microfibre cloths to prevent scratching the glass. Metal components require delicate dusting without harsh chemical polishes, while leather elements benefit from occasional application of specialized leather conditioner to preserve flexibility.
