A matching pair of console tables dates from the early 20th Century in the Grand Regency style. Each table takes a demilune silhouette with a cream veined marble top, dark brown mahogany framing, and metal claw feet finished in black. The design incorporates elegant swept legs with visible high relief carving, simple panelled friezes, and rich wood grain patination. Each table measures 93.3 cm high, 107.3 cm wide, and 41.3 cm deep. These pieces work well beside the front door or within a hallway to display decorative items, greeting guests upon entry. The narrow depth suits transitional spaces and entrance halls where floor space is limited, providing a classic surface against a wall. The neutral tones of the marble and dark timber integrate easily into traditional and formal interior schemes.

Demilune console tables originated in eighteenth-century Europe, featuring a semi-circular footprint designed to fit flush against walls or in narrow corridors. Popularised during the Neoclassical, Regency, and Empire periods, they were frequently placed in foyers or grand drawing rooms to display decorative arts.

Tables from this period typically feature dense hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, frequently accented with figured veneers. Surfacing often incorporates shaped marble slabs, while lower legs and terminal feet commonly utilise cast bronze or brass fittings.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery underneath the apron, naturally aged patina on timber surfaces, and slight irregularities in metal sabots. The marble tops often show hand-cut underside bevels and evidence of historical hand-polishing rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

Positioning a matching pair symmetrically on either side of a doorway, fireplace, or large architectural mirror creates structure and balance. Pair with low-profile modern table lamps or contemporary wall sconces to highlight the contrast between rich mahogany grain and stone textures.

Clean marble tops using a soft cloth dampened with pH-neutral stone cleaner, avoiding acidic substances like lemon juice or vinegar. Protect wood aprons and legs by applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually and keeping the timber away from direct heat sources.
