Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Enamel advertising signs, often called porcelain enamel or vitreous enamel signs, gained popularity from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. They were widely used by brands and retailers for outdoor promotion because the fused glass-and-metal finish resisted weathering, fading, and corrosion.

These signs were produced by applying powdered glass to a heavy sheet metal base, typically iron or steel. The piece was then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, causing the glass to melt and fuse to the metal, creating a glossy, durable surface with screen-printed or stencilled graphics.

Authentic pieces typically feature heavy-gauge steel, multi-layered vitreous enamel with natural chipping around the mounting holes, and genuine oxidisation or rust on the edges. Modern reproductions often use flat printed sheet metal, lack the characteristic gloss depth of fired glass, and simulate artificial ageing.

They make striking focal points when mounted directly onto exposed brick walls, in home kitchens, or within eclectic commercial spaces. Their bold typography and rich colours complement industrial, rustic, and maximalist interior design schemes.

Clean the surface gently using a soft cloth with mild soapy water to remove dust and grime, avoiding abrasive scourers or harsh chemical solvents that could damage the porcelain finish. Preserve exposed metal edges with a light coat of microcrystalline wax to inhibit further rusting.
