Antique treen refers to small, functional wooden household objects carved by hand, which were essential in domestic spaces before the widespread use of ceramics and metal.

Makers frequently utilised dense, close-grained hardwoods such as sycamore, boxwood, and maple for kitchen utensils due to their durability and resistance to splitting.

Authentic pieces typically display tool marks from hand-carving or lathe-turning, a dry waxed patina built up over decades of use, and natural shrinkage cracks consistent with age.

These pieces add warmth and texture when displayed on open shelving, hung in groups on kitchen walls, or used simply as sculptural decorative objects on work surfaces.

Dust gently with a dry cloth and occasionally treat the wood with microcrystalline wax or food-safe mineral oil, strictly avoiding water immersion and harsh detergents.
