Parian porcelain is a type of unglazed biscuit porcelain that closely resembles carved marble, developed in Britain during the 1840s by works such as Copeland and Minton for sculptural figures and decorative items.

Parian ware is composed of a fine feldspathic porcelain body that is slip-cast in multi-part moulds, allowing for exceptionally high-relief detail without requiring a glossy glaze finish.

Authentic pieces feature a matte, marble-like texture, crisp undercut moulding with botanical or figurative motifs, and often carry impressed maker marks or registration diamonds on the unglazed base.

Antique ceramics add texture and historical contrast when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or glass cabinets alongside modern minimalist elements.

Unglazed parian should be cleaned gently using warm water, a soft brush, and mild soap to remove dust from the intricate relief work, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can stain the porous surface.
