FAQs

French provincial furniture originates from the regions outside Paris during the 17th and 18th centuries, characterised by simpler, rustic interpretations of court styles with local timbers such as cherry, oak, and chestnut.

These tables were typically constructed from solid domestic hardwoods like cherry or oak, employing traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails for drawers, and pegged construction without modern metal fasteners.

Authentic period pieces exhibit tool marks from hand planes, irregular wood shrinkage, hand-forged iron or brass hardware, and a deep patina developed through centuries of wax application and use.

An antique table introduces warmth and historical contrast into a contemporary scheme, pairing effectively with minimalist upholstery, neutral palettes, and modern ceramic or glass accessories.

Preserve antique cherry wood by maintaining stable room humidity, keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, and treating the surface periodically with natural beeswax rather than silicone-based polishes.
