Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Carved acanthus collars above tapering reeded legs: cabinetmaking of the 1820s and 1830s.
Brass cup castors on turned feet: early nineteenth-century mounting style.
Reeded moulded edges around the top: classic late Regency styling.
Colour differences between the leaves: natural light fading over many decades.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Regency dining table uses figured mahogany and brass. The warm brown wood has a polished finish and a reeded edge to the rectangular top with rounded corners. Eight carved, reeded, tapering legs terminate in original brass cup castors and wheels. The piece incorporates a pull-out extending action and two leaves measuring 61 cm and 30.5 cm. Measuring 74 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 244.5 cm deep, the table functions as a large dining setting for entertaining guests in a formal dining room or open-plan living space. The metamorphic design also converts the furniture into a pair of console tables and a centre table when needed.

FAQs

Designed during the early 19th century in Britain, Regency dining tables are characterised by classical proportions, turned or reeded legs, high-grade figured mahogany, and expanding mechanisms using additional leaves.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid and veneered mahogany, prized for its stability and grain structure, supported by carved legs fitted with brass castors and internal wooden runner mechanisms.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-planed timber, hand-cut joinery on the extension runners, hand-carved leg detailing such as reeding, original brass castors, and natural age-related patination.

Pairing a Regency table with modern upholstered dining chairs or contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition between classical timber craftsmanship and clean minimalist lines.

Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the grain to preserve the surface lustre.
