FAQs

Wooden Noahs arks became popular children toys in Europe, particularly Germany and the UK, during the 18th and 19th centuries as permitted Sunday playthings.

They were typically handcrafted from softwoods such as pine or deal, using lathe-turned or hand-carved techniques for the figures and simple joinery for the hull and house.

Authenticity is indicated by tool marks, period-appropriate aged patina, hand-cut nails or wooden pegs, and traditional split-turned or pegged animal construction.

It can be displayed on a bookshelf or mantelpiece as a sculptural folk art object, pairing well with natural textures and neutral backgrounds.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels, dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth without applying liquid polishes.
