Description

A smart and beautifully made antique figured walnut console table. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1920 period.

It has an incredibly useful design, it is wide and very slim from front to back. The quality is outstanding, the top has cross banded edges and double herringbone borders. The drawers have solid oak construction inside, and beautifully designed brass handles.

The condition is excellent, we have recently had this re-polished. There is a gorgeous overall patina and colour tone, with just some minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Figured walnut gained prominence in British cabinet making during the late 17th century and the 18th century, prized for its distinct grain patterns and rich tones. Craftsmen utilised veneers to showcase the decorative qualities of the timber.

These pieces typically feature fine timber veneers applied to solid secondary woods using traditional animal glues, often complemented by hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction and cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed through examination of the timber grain, construction techniques such as hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage patterns, and the presence of period-appropriate oxidisation and wear on the hardware.

A figured walnut table works effectively as a focal point in a hallway or living space, paired with minimalist contemporary decor to highlight the natural wood grain and historical character.

Preserve antique wood by maintaining stable room temperatures, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying quality beeswax periodically to nourish the surface without using synthetic polishes.
