Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Slipware is a category of earthenware ceramics decorated with liquid clay, known as slip, applied prior to glazing and firing. This method was widely used across European country potteries from the 17th through the 19th centuries for everyday utilitarian vessels.

These vessels are shaped from coarse local terracotta or red earthenware clay and decorated with trailed liquid clay coloured using natural mineral oxides. A clear or lead-based glaze is applied to seal the ceramic body and highlight the contrasting decorative patterns.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-trailed slip design with subtle variations, lead-glaze crazing, and minor edge wear consistent with age. The underside typically displays unglazed red terracotta showing natural patina and historical handling marks.

A slipware dish works well displayed flat on a kitchen island, arranged on a sideboard, or mounted upright within a dresser or wall rack. The warm brown and earthy yellow tones integrate effectively into rustic, country house, or traditional kitchen spaces.

Hand washing with warm water and a gentle detergent is recommended, avoiding prolonged soaking if glaze crazing is present. Historic earthenware should never be placed in dishwashers or microwaves, nor exposed to rapid temperature changes.
