This large Arts and Crafts stick stand dates from 1880 and brings an English Country House aesthetic to the home. The cylindrical body comprises a warm golden copper material with a hammered finish, bound by dark iron straps secured with prominent rivets at the top and bottom rims. The structure stands on three forged iron feet shaped with flattened, webbed toes, raising the base slightly above the floor. Visible details include the heavy iron framework, the vertical support bars extending down the sides, and the aged patination across the metallic surfaces. The item measures 46 cm high, 34 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. Position this heavy and stable piece beside the front door to hold walking sticks, umbrellas, and canes neatly in an entrance hallway. The combination of beaten copper and dark iron hardware suits traditional and rustic interiors, adding practical utility and industrial character to daily comings and goings. The open-topped cylindrical design allows for easy placement and retrieval of long items, while the sturdy metal construction ensures reliable balance on hard flooring surfaces.

Metal stick stands became widespread during the nineteenth century as dedicated hallway storage for walking canes and wet umbrellas. They evolved from basic utilitarian vessels into decorative entryway fixtures that reflected the popular metalworking styles of the Victorian and Arts and Crafts eras.

These stands were constructed using sheet copper or brass for the central cylinder, reinforced with forged iron bands, vertical straps, and heavy rivets. The bases were frequently fitted with cast or forged iron feet to provide weight and stability when holding tall items.

Authentic period pieces demonstrate signs of hand-hammering, irregular hand-set iron rivets, and uneven patination or oxidisation near the base from historic water contact. Modern reproductions often exhibit uniform machine-made rivets, flawless surfaces, and chemically applied artificial patinas.

Position the stand near an entryway or front door to organize umbrellas, walking sticks, or rolled plans and prints. The metallic contrast of warm copper and dark iron integrates effectively with neutral modern plasterwork, exposed brickwork, or traditional timber panelling.

Dust the exterior regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip the original patina. To prevent internal corrosion from residual moisture, keep the interior base clean and dry, applying a thin coat of microcrystalline wax to protect the metal surface.
