Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Foo Dogs, or Chinese guardian lions, traditionally represented protection and status in Asian architecture. During the 19th century, Western fascination with Eastern design led to the adoption of these figures in smaller decorative stone carvings such as bookends and desk ornaments.

Craftsmen used dense, carveable natural stones including marble, jadeite, soapstone, and alabaster. These natural minerals offered both the visual depth of variegated colours and the necessary weight to hold books upright.

Authentic period pieces feature subtle variations between the left and right figures, visible chisel marks within deep recesses, and natural veining in the stone. Bases often show minor unevenness or surface wear consistent with age and desktop use.

Place stone bookends on a dark wood bookshelf or an office desk to anchor a collection of hardbacks. Their sculpted form and soft green colour provide organic texture when contrasted against contemporary minimalist furniture.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth to clean carved crevices. Avoid acidic or harsh chemical detergents, as these can dull the natural polish and etch the stone surface over time.
