Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Meissen hard-paste porcelain figural group shows a courting couple standing before a classical bust, accompanied by dogs on a gilded oval base. The glazed polychrome composition incorporates enamel decoration in pastel pink, blue, yellow, and maroon, complemented by gilt highlights on the rounded pedestal base and black footwear with decorative gold buckles. Sculpted figures display detailed garments, including striped breeches, elaborate waistcoats, and ruffled collars, whilst two small spaniel dogs flank the grouping. The porcelain group stands 34 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. Positioned upon a sideboard top, this decorative piece suits display within a traditional dining room or living area. The figural arrangement provides an ornate focal point for interior settings, bringing historical rococo style to surface spaces throughout the home.

FAQs

European porcelain figural groups from the 18th century typically present narrative scenes depicting pastoral, allegorical, or aristocratic life. Championed by manufactories such as Meissen, these hard-paste porcelain figures feature intricate hand moulding, enamelling, and theatrical poses.

Meissen figures are constructed from hard-paste porcelain composed of kaolin and petuntse. Individual components are press-moulded, joined using slip, fired at high temperatures, and subsequently decorated with hand-applied enamel colours and gilding.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the underside for the blue underglaze crossed swords mark, incised model numbers, and painter marks. Additionally, high-grade moulding details, precise enamel brushwork, and the heavy weight of hard-paste porcelain serve as key indicators.

A porcelain figural group functions effectively as a focal point on a mantelpiece, a sideboard top, or enclosed within a glass display cabinet. Pair with contemporary lighting or dark wood surfaces to accentuate the bright enamel glazes and sculpted details.

Dust figures regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush to clear intricate recesses. For deeper cleaning, wipe gently with a cotton swab dampened with warm water and neutral detergent, ensuring fluid does not enter unglazed air holes.
