Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Maintain the finish by applying natural beeswax periodically and avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading. Always use heat-resistant mats and coasters to protect the French polished surface from moisture rings and thermal damage.

Pairing a massive mahogany table with contemporary minimalist seating creates a striking juxtaposition of eras that grounds an open-plan dining space. Layering the surface with simple ceramics and contemporary lighting prevents the room from feeling overly traditional.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate hand-cut dovetails, naturally oxidised timber patination, and makers stamps on the brass winding mechanism or skirt. The internal wooden tracks and screw rods should show genuine wear consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing techniques.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as Honduran or Cuban mahogany, often featuring secondary woods like oak or pine for internal framing. Joinery typically incorporates hand-cut tenons, stable block construction, and heavy turned or fluted legs fitted with brass castors.

A wind out dining table features a hidden internal screw mechanism operated by a crank handle, allowing leaves to be inserted or removed to alter the length. This engineering innovation became popular during the Victorian era to accommodate large banqueting gatherings.
