Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Pembroke table is a type of light, portable drop-leaf table first popularised in Britain during the 18th century. Named after the Countess of Pembroke, these tables feature two hinged flaps that can be raised to expand the surface area and typically contain one or two drawers.

Georgian Pembroke tables were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or satinwood, often featuring decorative boxwood or ebony string inlay. Construction techniques from this period typically include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and brass cup castors mounted on tapered legs.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-sawn secondary timbers such as oak or pine inside the drawer linings, along with hand-cut dovetails and period brass hardware. The underside often reveals hand-planed surfaces and age-related shrink gaps in the wood grain.

A Pembroke table functions as a versatile accent piece positioned beside a sofa, between two armchairs, or within an entryway. Folding the side leaves allows it to fit neatly in compact spaces while providing surface area for modern table lamps and decorative objects.

Dust the timber regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placing the table near direct heat sources or in strong sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish fading.
