Burr walnut card tables gained immense popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, designed specifically for parlour games such as whist and bridge, showcasing the intricate grain patterns prized by cabinet makers.

These pieces typically feature a solid pine or oak secondary timber carcase veneered with highly figured burr walnut, incorporating clever pivoting or folding mechanisms and hand-carved cabriole legs.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate hand-cut dovetails, natural wax patination, traditional hide glue, and the irregular, swirling grain patterns unique to genuine burr walnut veneer.

An antique card table functions effectively as a versatile console or writing desk in a living room or study, contrasting cleanly against neutral walls and modern minimalist seating.

Preserve the finish by keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying occasional traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
