Huge Majolica / Maiolica Centrepiece

19th century
Description

A huge and beautiful Majolica centrepiece. Circa 1880. Italian, possibly Neopolitan.

Boat-shaped twin handled centre-piece bowl decorated in Urbino style of Figures, Flowers, and Dolphin heads. Hand decorated with narrative scenes covering the entire surface of the opaque white tin-glazed earthenware. The allegorical scenes in the two central cartouches from classical mythology in a range of colours, in which yellow, orange and blue predominate. Winged mythological grotesques adorning both ends serving as spectacular handles.

In excellent condition and only minor fritting around edges and extremities (table not included).
