FAQs

Edwardian perpetual calendars gained popularity in the early 20th century as functional desk accessories for offices and studies, designed to be reused indefinitely by adjusting manual rollers or cards for the day, date, and month.

These items were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, often featuring turned wooden spindles, carved twist rope mouldings, and internal linen or card rollers for the calendar displays.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, traditional hand-turned wooden components, genuine ageing of the timber such as patina and oxidation, and typography characteristic of early 20th-century printing.

An antique calendar serves as a functional decorative object on a home office desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece, adding texture, historical character, and warmth to contemporary workspaces.

Preserve antique wooden items by keeping them away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent warping or splitting, and occasionally treating the surface with microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber.
