Description

A handsome 19th century mahogany miniature chest of drawers, standing on bun feet with brass knob handles, and cross-banding to the top. Possibly made as an apprentice piece, this is a charming little item that would be ideal for storing sewing or craft supplies.

Condition: There are a couple of splits to the veneer on one side, and a few chips and losses to the sides and front, mainly on the corners, but overall this is in good condition. The drawers have green patterned paper liners which we have not attempted to remove.

Free UK delivery - the item will be sent using a tracked and signed for service. If you would like a quote for delivery elsewhere please get in touch.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Miniature chests of drawers are small-scale case pieces historically produced either as apprentice masterpieces, cabinetmaker scale models, or salesman samples to demonstrate woodworking proficiency and design options to prospective buyers.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, turned feet, and small brass knobs or escutcheons.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, secondary wood types used in drawer linings, hand-cut joinery methods, natural patina on the brass hardware, and signs of age-related wear such as shrinkage cracks and oxidation.

These compact items function effectively as display pieces on sideboards, desks, or console tables, offering practical storage for small keepsakes while adding historical warmth to a contemporary space.

Preservation involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish.
