FAQs

Ceramic lion figures gained immense popularity in British homes during the Victorian era, often manufactured by Staffordshire potteries to symbolise strength, nobility, and the British Empire, typically displayed on mantelpieces.

These pieces were traditionally cast from earthenware or pottery molds, hand-painted with metallic oxides or underglazes, and finished with a clear gloss glaze before being fired in a kiln.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit crazing in the glaze, hand-painted detailing with natural pigment variations, historical wear on the base, and lack of modern manufacturing marks.

They can be styled as focal points on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard, pairing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary minimalist surroundings to create visual contrast.

Dust gently with a dry, soft cloth, keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, and avoid using liquid cleaners or submersing them in water, particularly if crazing is present.
