This charming cushion was produced by the talented Jaf weavers, a sub-tribe of the Kurds. Jaf bags are among the most appealing and recognisable of Persian tribal weavings of the 19th century. In the best examples, the exceptional wool quality and fine saturated dyes have survived the generations well resulting in jewel-like weavings with glossy wool and glowing colours. Originally made as a utility bag, this lovely piece has been adapted into a cushion and is a fine example with a velvety texture and edible colours. The design is the ubiquitous repeat diamond lattice seen on the vast majority of Jaf bags, but it is augmented by its unusual borders. In addition the original kilim back of the bag has survived along with the original piled and soumac end panels. It is a lovely little object, both collectible and decorative, which would work well as a delightful furnishing item in all kinds of settings. Very good original condition.
