Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the 18th century, street trader figuresoften referred to as Crierswere inspired by contemporary engravings depicting everyday street vendors. The Meissen factory in Saxony pioneered these subjects under master modeller Johann Joachim Kandler, establishing a tradition of capturing occupational figures in hard-paste porcelain.

18th-century Meissen figures were crafted from hard-paste porcelain, a mixture of kaolin and petuntse fired at high temperatures. The details were hand-painted using overglaze enamel pigments and accented with burnished gold leaf before a final firing.

Authentic pieces typically feature the crossed swords mark in cobalt blue underglaze on the base. Collectors also examine details such as crisp moulding, hand-painted facial features, early polychrome enamel palettes, and characteristic Rococo scrollwork moulding.

Porcelain statuettes can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, on mantelpieces, or arranged on bookshelves alongside contemporary art books. Grouping figures by historical era or theme creates a structured visual narrative within classic or eclectic interiors.

Dust porcelain figurines regularly using a soft, dry camel-hair brush. Avoid immersing pieces with gold accents or overglaze enamels in water, and never use abrasive materials or chemical cleaners, as these can strip original paint and gilding.
