Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820, draws heavily on classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by clean architectural lines, dark woods such as mahogany, and contrasting ebonised details.

These tables were typically crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often featuring inset tooled leather writing surfaces, solid brass castors, and turned or carved supports.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer linings, traditional secondary woods like oak or pine, and natural patina resulting from decades of use.

A substantial antique desk serves as a striking focal point in a contemporary home office or study, paired with minimalist seating to balance the historical weight of the dark wood.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, applying traditional beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
