FAQs

Grodnertal dolls are traditional wooden peg dolls originating from the Groden valley in the Tyrol region, typically characterised by carved wooden heads, painted features, and peg joints.

These figures were traditionally hand-carved from local lightweight woods such as lime, pine, or beech, often finished with gesso and hand-painted facial details.

Authentic pieces usually display hand-carved tool marks, natural ageing of the wood and gesso, period-correct handmade textiles, and distinctive regional carving styles.

Display the piece within a glass cabinet, on a dedicated shelf, or alongside other historical curiosities to highlight its sculptural form and heritage.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight, maintain stable room temperatures, avoid high humidity, and clean gently with a soft, dry brush without using water or chemical solvents.
