Treen refers to small, functional wooden household items made by hand or on a lathe, with peak production occurring during the 18th and 19th centuries before mass manufacturing took over.

Hardwoods such as beech, sycamore, and boxwood were traditionally selected for their tight grain, durability, and resistance to splitting when exposed to moisture during dairy processing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-carved details, tool marks, shrinkage cracks, and a deep patination resulting from decades of handling, washing, and natural fat absorption.

These pieces integrate well into rustic or minimal schemes when displayed in groups on open kitchen shelving, wooden surfaces, or within glazed display cabinets.

Keep wooden items away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent cracking, and occasionally treat the dry surface with food-grade mineral oil or beeswax if necessary.
