This eighteenth-century Georgian Chinoiserie punch bowl is made from soft-paste porcelain and finished with a cobalt underglaze in blue and white. The exterior displays a hand-painted Chinoiserie landscape scene featuring oriental huts, pine tree motifs, and islands, while the rim has a diaper pattern border. The bowl stands upon a raised foot rim and shows surface wear typical of antique ceramics. It measures 9 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. In a modern home, this piece works well displayed on a sideboard top as a decorative accent or centrepiece within an English Country House interior. It provides both visual interest through its detailed blue and white scenery and practical utility for interior styling.

First Period Worcester porcelain refers to wares produced at the Worcester factory during the Dr John Wall management era between 1751 and 1783. These early pieces are characterised by a soft-paste porcelain body containing Cornish soaprock, decorated with underglaze cobalt blue hand-painting or transfer prints.

Eighteenth-century English soft-paste porcelain was composed of clay blended with crushed glass, sand, and steatite (soaprock) to enhance thermal stability. Decoration was executed using cobalt oxide applied directly to the unfired body before coating in a lead glaze and firing.

Authentic First Period Worcester items frequently exhibit a greenish translucency when transmitted light passes through the soaprock body. Bases often feature underglaze blue factory marks, such as open crescents, fretted squares, or worker marks, alongside wear consistent with age.

Position the bowl as a focal centrepiece on a console table, sideboard, or dining table to anchor a room scheme. Placing blue and white ceramics inside lighted cabinets or on open shelving provides an understated decorative contrast against modern backgrounds.

Clean soft-paste porcelain gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive liquid detergent. Avoid submerging items with hairline fractures, steer clear of sudden temperature shifts, and never place antique ceramics in an automated dishwasher.
