Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in 18th-century Britain, a George II walnut card table typically features a hinged folding top, shaped corners designed to accommodate candlesticks or counters, and cabriole legs. These tables were created specifically for card games and social entertaining during the mid-Georgian period.

These tables were constructed using figured walnut veneers over solid oak or pine carcases, joined with hand-cut dovetails. The legs were carved from solid timber, often terminating in pad or ball-and-claw feet, and operated via concertina or rear gate-leg mechanisms.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, natural shrinkage cracks in the veneer, and dark oxidation on untreated secondary timbers inside the carcase. Original iron hinges and an uneven, naturally aged patina further indicate authenticity.

When closed, the table can be positioned against a wall as a hallway console or accent table behind a sofa. Displaying contemporary ceramics or a lamp on top provides a balance between historical furniture and modern decor.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting and timber bleaching. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to protect the finish.
