Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency sofa table uses warm brown rosewood with brass mounts on the drawer fronts and decorative ormolu-style mounts on the splayed quadruped legs. The rectangular top has drop-leaf side flaps supported on swinging brackets, above two frieze drawers fitted with ornate brass handles. Twin turned columns rise from a central plinth to support the upper structure, resting on four curved legs terminating in brass castors. Minor surface wear shows on the timber top. Practical dimensions measure 73 cm high, 91 cm wide closed, 137 cm wide open, and 69 cm deep. Placed in a drawing room or study, this piece fits traditionally behind a sofa or serves as a freestanding centre table, providing surface space for lamps or books while accommodating occasional dining or writing tasks when the leaves are extended.

FAQs

Introduced during the British Regency period, sofa tables were designed with narrow proportions and extending drop leaves to sit behind a sofa, functioning as surfaces for writing, reading, and tea service.

Furniture from this period frequently incorporated rosewood veneers, brass inlay stringing, cast brass mounts, turned twin column supports, and splayed legs terminating in brass cap castors.

Authentic 19th-century examples feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, genuine brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and hand-turned structural elements consistent with period craftsmanship.

It can be styled behind a freestanding sofa, positioned along an entrance hallway as a console, or placed beneath a window to hold table lamps and decorative objects.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid placing the timber near direct heat or sunlight, and apply beeswax sparingly while taking care not to build up wax over brass mounts.
