Gilding on the rim rubbed through: decades of gentle washing and handling.
Glazed inner foot with dry resting ring: clean kiln firing on a foot ring.
Hard-paste porcelain body: French manufacture rather than English soft paste.

This decorative bowl is a French nineteenth-century piece made from white porcelain with hand-enamelled and gilded decoration. The exterior is painted with pink and purple floral garlands, green leaves, pheasant motifs, and prominent cobalt blue borders edged in gold leaf, with a continuous gilded chain pattern along the top rim. The piece stands on a circular foot and is glazed inside and out, measuring 11 cm high by 22 cm wide and 22 cm deep. In a contemporary home, the bowl serves as an ornamental display piece on a sideboard top or a living room console. It works well as a standalone decorative accent or used to hold small trinkets in a traditional interior setting.

Founded in Paris in the 19th century by Edme Samson, the Samson ceramic company specialized in producing high-quality reproductions of famous 18th-century European and Oriental porcelain, including Chinese Export, Meissen, and Sevres styles.

These bowls were manufactured using hard-paste porcelain, finished with an overglaze enamel technique for hand-painted botanical or bird motifs, and decorated with burnished gold leaf gilding along the rims.

Authentic Samson items are typically made of hard-paste porcelain and often bear spurious or imitation marks of earlier factories alongside Samsons own mark, such as an S or crossed swords variation.

Place the bowl as a focal centrepiece on a sideboard, dining table, or console table, or display it inside a glass cabinet alongside plain modern glassware to highlight its detailed paintwork.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, abrasive sponges, or immersion, which can damage original gilding and overglaze enamel.
