Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian curtain tie backs, also known as drapery bosses or holdbacks, are decorative metal fittings introduced during the 18th and early 19th centuries to hold window curtains open. They feature detailed castings, often incorporating neoclassical motifs such as lion masks, rosettes, and foliage.

These pieces were typically cast using sand moulds from solid brass or bronze, followed by hand-chasing to sharpen high-relief details. A threaded iron or steel rod was integrated into the stem to allow secure installation into wooden window surrounds.

Authentic Georgian examples exhibit slight surface irregularities, hand-cut screw threads, and natural wear from handling over time. The reverse sides usually display unpolished, raw casting texture accompanied by dark oxidisation in recessed areas.

These solid brass fittings can be paired with heavy linen or velvet curtains to bring historical architectural detail to contemporary spaces. They can also serve as decorative wall pegs for displaying light textiles, tassels, or small hanging items.

Wipe the metal surfaces periodically with a soft cloth to remove dust. Avoid aggressive chemical polish or abrasive cleaning tools, as these can strip the original surface patina and soften hand-engraved definition.
