FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover (1714 to 1830), characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

Pieces from this era were typically constructed from solid hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring traditional joinery such as dovetails in the drawer construction and hand-forged brass hardware.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, tool marks from hand planes, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and the use of period-appropriate fixings and secondary woods.

Mixing historical wooden pieces with contemporary seating or minimalist decor adds depth and character, creating a balanced transitional aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship of the item.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping, and nourish the surface periodically using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
