This eighteenth-century side table comes from the Georgian period and follows an English country house style. The construction uses dark brown mahogany with original brass hardware, displaying an unstripped and uncleaned finish that retains its natural patina. The rectangular top sits above a single full-width drawer fitted with brass swan neck drop handles and an ornate brass keyhole escutcheon at the centre. Small shaped wooden brackets adorn the tops of the straight square tapered legs underneath the apron. Practical dimensions measure 71 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 49 cm deep. Suitable placement for this piece includes positioning beside the front door as an entryway console or placement in a hallway to hold daily essentials. The storage drawer provides space for small household items while the compact footprint fits easily into narrow circulation spaces or against spare walls throughout the home. Regular maintenance involves gentle dusting with a dry cloth to protect the historic timber surface and preserve the aged finish.

Georgian side tables, produced between 1714 and 1830, are defined by classical proportions, solid mahogany construction, and functional drawer storage.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised solid mahogany, pine or oak drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-sawn markings on unexposed surfaces, hand-cut dovetails, original cast brass fittings, and natural timber oxidisation.

Place the table in a hallway or alcove and combine it with modern lighting or contemporary framed artwork to create structural contrast.

Apply clear beeswax along the grain periodically and position the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators.
